A few old families still call it Mathgram—a time when the town was filled with monasteries and quiet reflection. Today, Margao is Goa’s commercial heart, pulsing with trade and everyday hustle. But the old spirit lives on—in backlanes, markets, and memories—waiting to be walked through in this trail. A Walk Through Living History: Purumenth Edition Your journey begins at the stunning white façade of the Holy Spirit Church, one of Goa’s oldest. But beyond its architecture lies a secret—a rare alignment of sun and shadow that appears just once a year. From here, our soulful hosts lead you into Abade Faria Street, past old mansions, hidden chapels, and a private home still bearing the marks of the Margao Massacre. This edition brings alive the spirit of Purumenth—an age-old Goan tradition of preparing for the monsoon. In earlier times, when the rains poured relentlessly, locals would gather at the Purumentache Fest—a week-long celebration where families stocked up on food provisions to last through the season. Walk with us through Margao’s old heart as this forgotten festivity quietly returns to its streets.
